Better

Just gave a lecture on the Russian Revolution and civil War. Last time I gave this there was way too much material and I went too fast - I think I crammed 15 pages of notes in 45 minutes. This time I went slower, and cut the amount of material, dealing with broad concepts and arguments relevant to the later parts of the course. I’m pleased, and it shows that my lecturing has improved since October!

This is what I wrote back in October;

I had a lot of material, and was going very fast. Plenty of note taking going on but at times I felt I was giving them too much detail. Tried to pull back and ended up running a bit short. Students commented that they felt that there was a lot in the lecture, and that the way in which I posit questions for them to consider and then read around in their own time, but they didn’t necessarily get the chance to get them down. I think I tried to do a little too much with regards to the scope of the lecture, but this should ease next week as the topics become less convoluted and smaller. I could also afford to slow down a little and give them a bit more time to think and write, and possibly deliver them slightly less detail that they feel they need to write down.
